Boys Volleyball spikes Bulkeley in 3Thursday, April 9, 2015
The Newington boys volleyball team started its defense of last year’s state title with an easy sweep over an improving Bulkeley squad in Hartford. The game scores were 25-6, 25-11, 25-18. Nick Hinchcliffe had 11 kills and eight aces for the Indians, while Blake Mamaclay showed he should be able to step into a larger role this season with 28 assists at setter. Bret Sullivan had eight kills while Tyler Callahan added seven more. Coach Curt Burns was happy with his team’s effort in a much tougher environment than last year’s. “They had a lot of enthusiasm,” Burns said, referring to the Bulldogs and their fans. Newington is on the road quite a bit early in the year, so this was a nice test. Courtesy of the NB Herald
